An IDF officer and four soldiers were wounded when a tank shell fired by troops at a Palestinian building overlooking Kfar Darom also hit an IDF armored vehicle near by early this morning.
The officer, whose condition is described as serious but stable and 4 soldiers who were lightly wounded, were taken to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba.
According to officials, shots were fired overnight a number of times at the settlements and soldiers identified a Palestinian gunman situated in a Palestinian building of several stories that overlooks the northern side of the settlement.
An IDF tank fired at the building and identified hitting the gunman.
At the same time an IDF patrol that was driving near the building was also hit.
Southern Command officials are investigating the incident. The probe will focus on the apparent lack of coordination between the sides, which led to the wounding of the soldiers.
