Farouk Kaddoumi, the Tunisia-based head of the PLO's Political Office on Monday warned the Palestinian Preventive Security Service in the Gaza Strip not to harm his chief of staff, General Suleiman Alfara, who was kidnapped by a group of armed men on Sunday at the entrance to his Khan Yunis office.
In the notice he published, Kaddoumi accused the Service of kidnapping Alfara and threatened to "take necessary measures" if Alfara was not released within a few hours. Kaddoumi also warned against turning Alfara in to Israel.
Dozens of armed loyalists belonging to the Fatah and the armed factions close to Kaddoumi were planning a large protest in the city.
No response has yet been received from the Preventive Security Service, or from any other faction or organization in the Palestinian Authority.
The kidnapping of Alfara may deepen the tension and the animosity between PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) and Kaddoumi.
